Enabling Educational Establishment to Collaborate for Ganga Rejuvenation
Under Namami Gange programme, the sustainability and effective implementation of various initiatives is envisaged through regular public participation based on planned information, education and communication approach. The programme would leverage the strengths of public volunteering and advocacy actions for which tremendous willingness exists.
While public participation is very useful in the short term, their sustainability is possible only when the same gets ingrained in the larger society and this can only be made feasible by various educational establishments. These educational establishments may foster a level of awareness and commitment in the young population, which will sustain the nation building process for all times. To aid the institutions in the achievement of this objective, it has been considered to connect all institutions on and in the vicinity of the river banks of Ganga and its tributaries so that they can collaborate. coordinate and leverage their experiences and strengths on a single platform and with the financial and technical support of National Mission for Clean Ganga.
Activities under GREEN Programme
i) Assimilate Ganga Centric themes in both curricular and extra- curricular activities of the institution. Concerned SOs would conduct workshops in each institution to demonstrate to teachers how this can be achieved
ii) Disseminate awareness about Ganga rejuvenation as part of environmental awareness actively in the institution
Local Activity level
i) Establish Ganga Clubs in the institution for focused discussion and activities for the same in local context
ii) Ganga Clubs to be expanded to move in nearby habitation and river banks to promote awareness and function as nucleus for larger public awareness
i) Clubs and student Groups to be encouraged to take up volunteering actions like adopting a Ghat, performing regular clean up on banks, Awareness oriented cultural activities on banks of river, collecting water quality samples and maintaining local database
i) Having demonstrated the commitment and knowledge about Ganga related issues, the clubs and groups take up active advocacy actions on banks and in cities, encouraging people to desist from polluting and start functioning as support organizations for other institutions.
